What to expect at a Bakery Institute?

Choosing a career in the bakery world can be as difficult, if not more, as selecting a career in any other field. It is a given that breaking into the scene of any fine art is more difficult than a normal engineering or any other common field, but, persistence and hard work always pay off as they often do.

Like any other field, bakery institutes, too, have a plethora of options and sub-streams that can be chosen by anyone pursuing this field. Every field is substantially different to any other, but they all do share some common theme and a common ground.

What are the choices of courses?

Most Bakery colleges in Delhi NCR like anywhere else in the world, have a lot of courses that offer different challenges and different career paths. Here are some of the courses that are offered in most Bakery colleges and institutions:

•    Diploma programs:

These sorts of programs are designed exclusively for those who want to pursue their bakery dream straight out of school. Two sub-programs, the bakery technology and management and the patisserie and artisan bakery craft, are available as choices for the diploma candidates.

The technology and management deals with the science of bakery while the other course deals with the actual art of baking patisseries. These courses run for one year.

•    Post graduate diploma programs:

The same two courses mentioned above are on offer in this field, but the targeted students are those who already have some undergraduate bakery course under their belts and want to add a post graduate degree to their names. These courses, too, have a one-year run period.

•    Short courses:

Designed as crash courses for students who want to break into the scene quickly or for those who want to change their specialization to something else, these are the best options which provide extensive knowledge and practice in the art in a very short period of time. These courses, too, have the same two sub-courses mentioned above. Being short courses, they provide the degrees in just six months.

•    Hobby Classes:

Designed for those who want to pursue bakery as a hobby rather than a career, the hobby classes provide specialization in things like bread& rolls, artisan bread, chocolate based bakery, etc.

•    Certificate programs:

These programs are short term courses that provide a certificate on completion with a specialization in, mostly, industry related job skills like quality and management, advanced bakery technology, entrepreneurship programs, etc. They run for lengths varying from 40 days to 2 months.

•    Short term up-skilling program

These programs are designed for those people who already have a firm grip on the cooking part of the bakery but want to increase further their skill levels. Usually six months to 1 year in duration, these courses can be completed even with a full-time job.
