SCOSCHE RHYTHM + 2.0
Wearable technology announcements at CES 2021 kicked off with the Scosche Rhythm + 2.0 bracelet. Improvements include increased battery life and sensor upgrades.
Scosche has a schedule to release a new heart rate monitor every few years. Rhythm + was released in the now distant 2014. The beauty of the device is that it can be worn in multiple ways. This includes the upper forearm, biceps, or triceps.
This type of optical heart rate monitor is a great alternative to the traditional chest strap. For all its compactness, its accuracy is amazing.
In 2018, Rhythm + was followed by Rhythm24, a problem-free heart rate monitor that works just fine. According to user ratings, it pulls almost 9 points.
It goes beyond the original in that it offers 24 hours of battery life, sport mode, heart rate variability (HRV) data, cadence statistics, on-board memory, and a 5-color LED indicator.
RHYTHM 2.0+: WHAT'S NEW AND WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCES?
However, most of this updated functionality is missing from Rhythm + 2.0. Except for battery life.
This is because the device is an updated version of the original Rhythm +. Thus, the Rhythm 24 remains the most high-tech model of the three modifications. Plus - this is the most expensive option.
With the release of Rhythm + 2.0, Scosche is phasing out the original device. It makes no sense to keep it.
Battery life has been increased from 8 hours in the original to 24 hours. There are also the usual sensor improvements that come with every new generation. The only other change is the removable fastening system in generation 2 compared to the Velcro in the original.
Other than that, you still get IP68 water resistance. We would have preferred if Scosche improved the heart rate strap by making it fully waterproof. Other companies like Polar have done this with some of their devices. For example, the OH1 model is water resistant to 30 meters, making it suitable for swimming.
As for other characteristics, it is worth noting the ability to connect to Dual ANT + and Bluetooth Smart. The brain of the device is a dedicated Valencell PerformTek sensor with two green LEDs and one yellow LED.
Scosche is finalizing Rhythm + 2.0. The $ 79.99 heart rate monitor is expected to be available in Spring 2021 in several different color options.
HONOR BAND 6
The Honor Band 6 comes complete with a huge display. The company announced at CES 2021 that this model will soon be available outside of the local Chinese market.
Many people prefer Honor Band to Mi Band bracelets because of their design. The 2019 version brought with it an SpO2 sensor, as well as the ability to track fatigue and lethargy, warn of poor sleep, and even detect dizziness during hypoxemia.
We've also seen the Band 5i over the past year, the Band 5 re-update.
It's a budget version that comes with a slightly larger display, less battery life, and no NFC. An important change is the way the bracelet is recharged. The Honor Band 5I can be plugged directly into the USB-A charging port, no cables required.
FOSSIL GEN 5 LTE
Fossil has opened pre-orders for two generation 5 LTE smartwatches. The company announced this at CES 2021.
This is important news as Fossil has a huge selection of Wear OS watches - the largest lineup of any brand. What's more, the brand has several sub-brands including Puma, Emporio Armani, Michael Kors, DKNY, Diesel, Kate Spade New York, Tory Burch, Chaps, and Armani Exchange. It is very likely that over time, cellular communications will be transferred to them.
