The Way to Use Your Temperaments

This is number four in a set of short articles exlaining how to use ancient modes to fortify harmony and mental balance. The first article covered the second dealt with the Phlegmatic Temperament; the topic widely; and also the third. The article deals with balancing the Sanguine. By highlighting them all on an significant scale the eight Pythagorean modes can be quickly accessed. Let us look for example at C, as it's made up only on the piano keyboard. * Optimism * Absent mindedness * Enthusiastic nature The hypomixolydian has no planet of its own, but is regarded as the mode of universal bliss. It can therefore be used for all therapeutic purposes, and is linked to the entire Cosmos, (known as the Sphere of the Fixed Stars in early times. This mode is used to balance SATURN from the humour. The phlegmatic minimised from the MOON and is increased by Sunlight; I'll also enter the Pythagorean concept of the two musical modes and the Four Temperaments. The SUN governs the dorian. So among its strengths is that it is fantastic for general alertness. The hypodorian, on the other hand, is dominated from the MOON. So it helps us to drop asleep. Therefore the phlegmatic, which is also ruled by the Sun and Moon is balanced by both of these modes. Sanguine kinds are usually very sociable". The sanguine humour exhibits these attributes, when it's in balance:- Playing the Lydian mode increases the Sanguine's qualities. Consequently, if we need to feel more sociable, or optimistic. We must hear that manner. If, on the other hand, the Sanguine is too powerful in us, (maybe we've been enjoying a little too much recently, or need grounding), we could play the hypolydian. This manner would also help if we happen to have been experiencing Sanguine qualities, fix an out-of-balance Sanguine. Vitamin E F G A B C You will have noticed that the hypomixolydian, Going In this article and the dorian are indistinguishable, as they both begin on D for those who have followed my so far. But the hypomixolydian contains its own rule and is a mode that is special. Hypomixolydian melodies start in precisely the same manner as the other modes, on A, however they should finish on a different note. They ought to end on this Mixolydian's Final, which happens to be G. The Building of the Modal Scales The phrygian mode is dominated by MARS. Mars, being "warlike," works towards the essence of the Choleric. MERCURY, however, rules the hypophrygian. As Mercury is a messenger, this mode is helpful for diminishing the nature of the Choleric, and replacing it. * Wears Heart on his/her sleeve. (Too innocent and trusting) * Affable nature From the point of view of early Greek music therapy, a tune should always start on the 6th note of the origin important scale (or the "lively middle") and complete on the base note of the mode (the "Closing"). The note 'A' is described as being the 6th note in the root major of C in our case. The SUN is represented by the 6th of the origin. By starting on A, and returning to it often, then ending on the Closing, the Solar Power ('A') is drawn down to the planet represented by the Final of the mode. Therefore, in the case of the Lydian, the Sun ('A') is focused on Jupiter (F, or the 4th of this origin major). The dorian mode is the same, but starting and finishing on the second note (D). From the Perspective, the mode only has a range of seven notes, so it goes like this: * Warm personality * Easy going character Similarly, the phrygian mode begins on the next note, (E); According to the Astrology of the Pythagorean School, every Temperament is governed by two divisions: the effects of the temperament magnifie, and the minimises them. JUPITER rules the lydian mode. Jupiter is traditionally the "bringer of jollity"", so this mode is essential for increasing the Sanguine. The hypolydian, on the other hand, is ruled by VENUS. Venus is the Goddess of love. Therefore, she's concerned with considerably deeper emotions (perhaps even "sadder", more tragic emotions) compared to the overburdened preoccupations of the Sanguine. So this mode is for moderating the sanguine good. The Temperaments and the Planets When It's unbalanced it projects:- The Eight Musical Modes and the Planets Trouble with punctuality Along with the melancholic is increased by SATURN. I'll deal with that in a few minutes, although there is no world to equilibrium the Saturnian effect on the melancholic. Both modes and seven planets leave a style. This is the reason why the humour and that have associated. These four will be the "authentic modes". The four "hypo-" manners are called "plagal". Their companions balance, and should be found beginning a 4th below. So, for instance, the hypodorian begins on 'A' (a 4th beneath the 'D' of the dorian. * Cheerfulness The choleric diminished by MERCURY and is exaggerated by MARS; * Favorable character * Inconsistent And also the mixolydian goes from G JUPITER magnifies the sanguine and minimised by VENUS; The lydian goes to E; The next article will deal with the last of this Temperaments: the Melancholic. I'll also reveal more of composing modal melodies, on the subject . These are the notes of C major: D E F G A B C * Lack of perseverence
