Biggest advantages of freelancing

One of the biggest advantages of freelancing, especially in today's economy, is the fact that you can get into just about any area. Years ago when people thought about freelancing the only thing that came to mind was writing. But what if you're not good at writing? There's no need to fear.    The most important habit for keep getting freelance projects is promoting a profile online. There are innumerable ways available for promoting your profile online including creating a profile on freelance job websites, social media marketing, participating in discussions forum, email marketing etc.   To succeed as a freelancer it becomes important to break down the traditional barriers and grab the attention of potential buyers. Avoid promoting your profile and portfolio in excess as it sometimes works as a negative marketing. Since Internet is a vast medium, people can easily get access to other skilled & competent individuals.   Do some networking with the people you already know. Ask friends, family, previous business colleagues whether they or they know of someone who might need your freelance services. Just put some feelers out there and be honest. Tell them about your skill-set, and tell them you're interested in freelancing in a particular area.    When you promise to have work turned in to your clients by a certain date, stick to that promise. Missing deadlines hurts your freelance business. Your client loses trust that you'll have your work done on time and they're less likely to order from you again.   There are new prospective virtual assistants out there that need to acquire clientele and may want to test the waters to see if becoming a freelancer is going to appeal to their sense of adventure and be a good fit. When my partner and I first started out, we were compelled to go into freelancing because I had been laid off and she had retired. We needed a way to supplement our income.    Nowadays everyone is using the internet, especially in the last 10 years. The usage of internet will be increased because of this freelancing from home. Why because, freelance jobs offering freedom and flexibility to the freelancer in the work.   Things will go wrong. Accept that an error or communication breakdown has occurred. They didn't start your project with the intention of making a mistake. This doesn't mean you ignore the issue. Part of gaining mutual trust is honest feedback. Talk to them about what happened. Dig into the root cause. They're professionals, they can handle it. You will both benefit from understanding what went wrong.   The easiest thing on the list but the one most often overlooked. When the job is completed say "thank you." Let them know the status of the job, provide feedback on how the project went, give them samples of the finished work. Everyone gains from this simple, zero cost, low effort gesture.
